Stop the world, I want to get off!!!

Our fears and anxieties are powerful and they crumple in the face of the Truth of who we really are.

Sometimes it all just feels like it's too much. And that it will never end.

Needing to do more, to be more. More present, competent, loving, productive, intentional, understanding, focused, confident...

Needing to do less, be less. Less needy, anxious, controlling, insecure, distracted, envious, judgmental...

The same tasks, conversations, worries and stresses - over and over and over again. Squeezing you so tight you can't breathe, let alone think straight. And the people in your life are depending on you to continue to hold it together.

So what do you do? Avoid, procrastinate, push back, hide, deny, blame... patch on another bandaid and grip a bit tighter on anything that feels real or creates a semblance of normalcy.

I was working with a client recently who was feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, and she came up with a brilliant strategy. (and gave me permission to share it with you!)

She was listing all of the things that were making her anxious, getting more and more ramped up, then exclaimed:

"I just want a cosmic time out room - somewhere I can go to decompress!!!"

She wanted a place to go where time stood still, where she could let herself just be, without needing to hold it together for anyone.

So I invited her to create her time out room. I talked her through a guided meditation in which she created the space where she could have her cosmic time out. She created a safe place to feel her fears, her anxieties, her sorrows - a place where she didn't have to do anything other than feel and be curious.

Our fears and anxieties are both powerful and paper-thin.

They are strengthened by the vortexes of not-enoughness and too-muchness, and crumple in the face of the Truth of who we really are.

In her cosmic time-out room, my client reflected on her values and the Truth of who she really is, the Truth that gets hidden by the layers of fear and anxiety.

When the power of fear was stripped away by the truth of who she is, her anxiety level dropped, she was able to get really clear about how she wanted to bring her values and wholeness to the parts of her life that were stressing her out.

She came out of her time-out room feeling more present and trusting of herself, and chose how to bring that clarity and confidence into the rest of her week. And she knows that her cosmic time-out room will always be there for her when she needs it. (Because there's always going to be something)

How do you access your internal wisdom when you're feeling overwhelmed?

If you were to build a cosmic time-out room, what would it look like?
What would it feel like?
What's getting in your way?

If your fears and anxieties feel too powerful, and you'd like help creating your cosmic time-out room, I'd be happy to help - for free - no obligation, no pressure - just a conversation.
