What rules do you play by?

What were the rules you learned growing up?
Not just "make your bed each morning" and "keep your room clean", but the rules for living?
What behaviour was right? What was wrong?
Can you hear the voice of a parent, grandparent or teacher in your head?
What did they tell you about life, about how to succeed, how to be in relationship to others?
“Work hard and you’ll be rewarded”
“It is better to give than to receive”
“Idle hands are the devil’s tools”
If you have time right now, grab a pen and paper, (or open your notes app) set a timer for 3 minutes, and write down all of the rules you can think of that you inherited. If you're not sure where to begin, start with "always do..." or "never do..." and see where that takes you!
Now look over that list.
How do those rules work in your life today?
Which of them still ring true?
Which ones are you second-guessing? Why do you think that is?
Which ones do you want to say goodbye to?
When you think about your inner compass - your values, passions, what’s important to you - what new rules do you want to create?
We’re always changing, adapting, evolving. You have information and experiences now that you didn’t have when you first learned “the rules”. As you plan your steps forward, TRUST YOURSELF. You’ve got this.
And if you don’t trust yourself, reach out - as your coach, I can walk with you and ask you insightful questions so you can get clear about your values and create actions to live by your new rules.
