Your mind is a powerful thing.

How does it help you? How does it get in your way?
My mind is powerful. I have used it to write a book, create these weekly posts, learn new skills so I can work with people in new ways, knit mittens and do Wordle each morning.
I also use my mind to create worst-case scenarios, make assumptions about situations and people, and have imaginary conversations that are way more challenging than anything that happens in real life.
It's taken me a long time, but I've finally learned that when I disconnect from my body, my mind takes on a mind of its own. When I remember to check in with how I'm feeling, with the sensations in my body, I become grounded and get clarity. I trust myself, instead of feeling like I'm grasping at straws and hoping for the best.
What are you feeling right now?
What emotions are present?
How do they feel in your body?
What else do you feel?
Can you stay with feeling, with sensing your body, for one more minute? (Without an agenda, without needing there to be a result?)
What happens?
You can't switch your brain off, but checking in with your body can interrupt those well-worn thought spirals and replays of old conversations. So you can have more focus and clarity, use your energy for what's important to you, or just get back to sleep more easily.
Here's a 5-minute recording you can use to help you get back into your body.
Let me know how it works for you!
